As a self-proclaimed pants-connoisseur, I hereby recognize, officially, that corduroy pants are backstreet-back-alright. I’ve hesitated in my acknowledgment of the emerging FW trend, because the last time cords were fresh and hot, I really leaned in and ended up with too many pairs that sat in my drawers, cold and lonely, for the following four years. Cords became a real wardrobe wallflower after winter 2011, but this season, they’re hitting shelves and Instagram in fun colors and oozing nostalgia.

Whether you’re going for polished page boy or smooth-running ‘70s, cords offer an alternative to those ratty black jeans that are now like your uniform. Paired with classic denim, a chunky sweater, a saintly-sexy turtleneck, or more corduroy, some of this season’s styles are sure to pack a serious style punch. And, aesthetics aside, corduroy’s are warm AF – perfect for all those outdoor Instagram photoshoots you’re planning this fall.

So, give your closet a heaping spoonful of groovy gravy and kick the cold with one straight-fire pair of OG cords. Better yet, ‘tis the season – do right by David Sedaris and pick up a pair for the whole fam.
